Attention Students:

Ambassadors are continuing their annual penny war contest for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society called Pennies for Patients. Each homeroom is collecting pennies –you want to bring in pennies…in boxes that your teacher has labelled Hero Squad. The goal is for each homeroom to put pennies in the box–not silver coins. If every homeroom collects 500 pennies–that’s five dollars–we will meet our goal as a school of $300 dollars. The winning homeroom with the most pennies will receive a donut breakfast. Contest end February 23rd. Good luck!

There will be no wrestling practice this evening. All wrestlers need to go home on the bus.

The 7th grade girls’ basketball team dropped a heartbreak last night 25-23 in Overtime. The Lady Giants got off to a slow start in the first quarter before taking control of the game in the 2nd half but missed key free throws and lay-ups late in the game.

Aaliyah Scharkley led all scoring with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Other scorers included Sabrina Douthit with 7 points, Cristen Carter with 4 points, and Eliza Poole and Brooklyn Palmer with 2 points each.

The Giants welcome Westlane next Thursday for a 5:15 tip time.

The 8th Grade Lynhurst Lady Giants faced Southport MS last night in the 2nd round of the Marion County Tournament. The Lady Giants jumped out to an early lead with some good defense and some hot shooting.  Corrina Porch-Maxey went 3 of 4 behind the 3 point line, Shamorie Watford and Shay-Lynne Debose both went 1 of 2 behind the 3 point line in the first half.  The Lady Giants put together 2 good quarters of basketball against a good Southport team. However, in the second half, the Lady Giants could not sustain the same intensity as in the first half… Corrina Porch-Maxey lead in scoring with 10, I’mari Brock lead the team in rebounding. The lady giants had great defensive contributions from Kamiyah Tapps, Damija Davis, El-lee Granados-Murillo & Lilly Kelso.

Keep working hard ladies!!
